My Experiences on Sagarmatha
- Babu Chhiri wrote before he died while attempting for the 11th time.

For the first time I went to Sagarmatha (Mt. Everest) summit  with Mr. Mark Batard of French Everest Expedition in 1999. During that time Mr. Batard had a plan to spend 8 hours on the summit of Sagarmatha (Mt. Everest) and after then planned to climb Mt. Lhotse. He reached the summit along with other Sherpa friends. After all the necessary arrangements his Sherpa friends returned back to the base camp. I was at South col. then & I also wanted to reach the summit and eagerly waited for the same. Mr. Batard could hardly stay 1 hour when he decided to return. It was when I expressed my desire to to put my step on the summit. He gladly accepted my request and told go me to go ahead, so I headed alone and reached to the summit. Mr. Batard had left many equipments and his walky-talky. I brought all those things bcak along with me & handed over to him. He thanked me. I was very much impressed by Mr. Batard's plan of spending 8 hours at the summit. This really inspired & motivated me to do something quite unusual. Then I decided that I would spend 21 hours on the summit & break a new World Record.

From my last Sagarmatha expedition I felt that although my country is small but we can make a big name and achieve success in setting most reputable records in the World. After my 10th successful Sagarmatha expedition huge rally & felicitation granted by people of Kathmandu city made me more excited. I was over joyed.

Most memorable incident in my life...

One morning in 1999 when I was returning from Sagarmatha my ladder broke down at Khumbu Ice-fall & I ended up hanging on the rope after falling down about 20 meter. On my back I had a load of about 25-30 kg's, bags full of f clothes, sleeping bag, walky-talky, 15 empty oxygen bottles, ropes, Ice axe, etc. I knew if I stay on for another few minutes I would be dead. So I quickly released my load to reduce weight on the rope and then climbed up slowly with whatever energy I could hang on with. I was scared almost to my death but with God's blessing and protection I was able to save myself and escaped a narrow death. This is an incident I will never forget.
